Experience Portland, OR: Wacky Weather, Outdoor Adventures, and Quirky Charm

I live in Portland, OR. I moved here in late 2022 so I have been here a couple summers and winters. I lived in the PNW earlier in life, in Seattle. When I left Seattle I promised myself I would never move to this area again because of the rain and overcast skies. Over the years I have discovered that I am happiest in sunny weather, it does not necessarily have to be warm but at least sunny.

I moved back to the PNW for work and it had been about 20 years since I had been back. Since leaving Seattle I have lived in Hawaii, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Washington and California. After moving to Portland, I remember the summer of 2023 the most, it was amazing. It was I think an El Niño year and every day was sunny and warm from May to September. We were out and about every day and that’s what brings me to the start of my list:

  1. Trees, trees and more trees everywhere. If you are from CA and drive up Interstate 5 you can see them popping up as you go north.
  2. It’s quiet! I did move from the city of San Francisco (it was loud every night till 2 or 3 am where we lived) We live outside of downtown, still in Portland.
  3. Cars stop and wait for you to cross. Even when you are not in a cross walk. Most of the cities I have moved from you could wait for 10 minutes or longer before someone would stop.
  4. Food Cart hubs in every community. So many foods from different cultures to try.
  5. Vegan and Vegetarian paradise. I do follow a vegan diet so the selection of food has been amazing.
  6. Bridges – fun to walk over and take photos. I walk to downtown often and can choose which bridge I would like to cross.
  7. Lots of water – the Willamette goes through town, there are boats to rent, even jacuzzi boats. There are beaches and specific swim areas.
  8. Many parks and the largest urban forest in the country – Forest Park is 5,200 acres. Lots of hiking and biking opportunities.
  9. The Columbia River Gorge and all the beautiful waterfalls are less than 1 hour away. It makes for easy weekend getaways and a great place to take visiting relatives.
  10. It’s weird. Check out the Freakybuttrue Peculiarium. Naked bike rides, Silent discos on the bridges at night, Pumpkin regattas, Witches paddle boarding on the Willamette for Halloween. The city tagline is “Keep Portland Weird”.
  11. It’s bike and pedestrian friendly. So many biking lanes everywhere with special bike stop lights. There is even a bridge that’s only pedestrians, bikes and public transportation.
  12. It has all the seasons. We had an ice storm last winter, we couldn’t leave the house, the roads were that thick with ice and then my favorite summer ever that I mentioned before.
  13. Cannabis dispensaries and Coffee shops everywhere. Great for cannabis users and coffee drinkers.
  14. The coast is less than 2 hours away and everyone knows how special the Oregon Coast is.
  15. No sales tax – what the price is, is what you pay!

That’s just my list – there are many other things l love but there are also a handful that I don’t love but that is for another post.

All in all, I am happy with my move to Portland, OR and it’s been the best place I have lived in a while.

Maintaining Health and Well-Being Through Daily Routine

What strategies I use to maintain my health and well being.

One thing I have learned in my life is that in order for me to be a productive human, I need routine.

Routine just makes my life easier and my mental state happier. It also allow me to do all the “things” I need to do in one afternoon or morning so my day goes smoothly,

If I stray from my routine because I think I have everything under control, it turns into a hot mess and usually I end up being irritated because I forgot to do something.

My health and wellness routine includes: Exercise/Yoga daily (I like to do deep hip stretches because that is where a lot of my anxiety and pain live), a bunch of supplements (at the beginning of the week I organize the vitamin container) always including magnesium and vitamin D. I journal and always thank the universe (& my mom and dad) for everything I am grateful for. I spend 20 minutes on the rebounder, I do a 5 minute tapping routine and spend about 15-20 minutes studying a different language. I eat healthy, include an apple a day, drink water and recently quit candy and any added sugars in food. I am feeling pretty good these days and definitely sleeping better than I have in a while.

I don’t do all of these things in the morning, I divide them into – before and after work. With my work schedule the way it is right now, this works perfect.

Columbia River Gorge Camping: Exploring Waterfalls and Hiking Trails

We will be camping at the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon this summer. Definitely looking forward to the sun and fresh air. We’ll be checking out some waterfalls and hiking a lot of trails. I enjoy being in the fern covered forests, it makes me feel good inside. The ferns remind me of my mom (she’s been gone for 14 years) so it feels like I am hiking through a big hug.

My cousins are coming from Europe. We used to camp together when we were kids so there will be a lot of fun stories to share and a lot of catching up to do.

My reviews: Rainbow Geek Bar – Orange Dreamsicle

This flavor reminded me of the 50/50 bar from the ice cream man back in the day. Remember the one with the orange popsicle on the outside and vanilla ice cream on the inside?
Each bar is easily divided into 10 pieces and each piece is 10mg of THC. I usually have one or two pieces depending on what I am doing. If I eat too much of any edible it just makes me really tired. I also don’t like to eat too many edibles because it brings up my tolerance and then when I smoke it’s not as effective.
The nerds were an interesting touch. It does make it a little hard to cut into pieces. This company also has a gummy candy covered with nerds and I like those a lot better. The gummy and crunch from the candy are a great combo.
I just noticed all those funky colors in the ingredients. It’s most likely from the nerds which sucks because all the other ingredients are pretty legit. I mostly stay away from artificial colors and generally bad ingredients in my every day food and this year I need to do the same with my edibles. I also just noticed the date, almost a year old. I hate that, these are things I just forget to look at when I am in the dispensary and I would suggest that you look at the date when buying anything at the dispensary – I am going to make it a priority of mine this year. 😉
I guess I noticed those colors before when writing this. My boyfriend would say,” El Dopa!” He always says that when I have a stoner moment.

Thank you for stopping by and reading my stuff. It is appreciated.

My reviews: Journeyman Berry Jellies by Journeyman

All natural, vegan, gluten-free, and full spectrum. I love that each package has three different flavors. The berry package has strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry.
THC levels vary per package and each package is marked with total THC per package and per jelly. They are also made with tapioca syrup instead of corn syrup!
The jellies have a great texture and are bursting with fruit flavor. The effects are good each time for me. These can take up to 2 hours to take effect. Every BODY is different. I usually feel them within 40 minutes.
The tropical edition also has 100 mg of THC and the flavors will put you in vacation mode: pineapple, mango, and passion fruit! Journeyman also has versions of these jellies with different THC/CBD levels for those who don’t care for all THC jellies.
Super cute packaging that is resealable.
These are my favorites right now!

I was writing this review and had taken 20 mgs (2)of these jellies – it was after work and I was tired anyway but I legit fell asleep right after writing how long it took to take effect. They are very effective!

My Reviews: Khush Kush – Macaroons aka Haystacks

First time I have ever had an infused Macaroon and it definitely did not disappoint!

I got these in Vancouver, WA. The flavor is really good and these are super moist. Very slight cannabis taste.
Each macaroon is individually packaged so you can take one for later or share it with your friends.
The chocolate-covered bottom is the best and makes it a legit macaroon in my opinion. 😉
They are nice size macaroons too. Each one has about 10mg’s THC per piece – the actual THC will be listed on the package.
Side View – big, right? The effects are nice and mellow – it’s hard to just eat one.
My last one with a bite taken out.

I will be going back up to WA to buy some more of these soon.

My Reviews: Fudge Yourself – Full Spectrum Cannabis Fudge

This fudge comes in a few different flavors. So far we’ve tried the Peanut Butter and Mint in addition to the Double Chocolate flavor. The Double Chocolate also comes in two formulas: Charge (Sativa) and Chill (Indica). Amazing flavor and it melts really well to add to hot cocoa or coffee.

These were on sale – 2 for $19.00 but the sale ended and now they are back to $12 a piece out the door.

It’s a beautiful thing when you can pronounce all of the ingredients.

Testing is done on each batch. This is the way they did it in Las Vegas. I always wondered how that worked in CA. Everything is marked at 100 mg and each 10mg piece always says 10mg. I wonder if the law there allows for a small percentage either over or under the standard 10mg?

Each piece of fudge comes with marks on the chocolate and you cut it into 10mg pieces yourself. I’ve noticed that a lot of the edibles here in Oregon are packaged like that. One big piece that can be divided. If you want separate pieces (like I am used to) you have to pay a little more.

This is definitely one of my favorites and it’s in the house at all times. I am looking forward to trying more of the Laurie and Mary Jane products and will give my feedback.

My reviews: Honu Edibles – Orange Dreamsicles Chocolate

One thing I have noticed about edibles in Oregon is that most come as one big piece that you have to cut up individually. Like these – there is a picture as an example but to cut this into smaller pieces would be really messy and a little difficult. I just cut them into quarters. The taste reminded me of an orange creamsicle popsicle.

Super tasty as far as the flavor goes but I didn’t care for the coloring that was added. The other flavors I have tried are Cookies and Cream and Chocolate Cherry. I will be purchasing those flavors again. The effects were very mellow and I had an amazing sleep last night.

*I’ve always known that anxiety disorders are some of the most difficult conditions to remedy.
People suffer their anxiety disorder for their entire lives, managing it as best they can. It’s never easy, though.
So I was extremely interested to hear about an approach to anxiety that treats the disorder in a completely new way.
This approach takes a fascinating approach to addressing all anxiety disorders that, for most sufferers, leads to a complete cure in just weeks.

My reviews: Yummy’s Vegan Fruit Snacks – Pink Lemonade (Sativa)

These are super tasty! Great texture and flavor. They are also hand-crafted locally in Sonoma County. Only $10 out the door. I buy these from Mercy Wellness in Cotati and usually, they have a BOGO for $1 sale going on.
Minimal ingredients. Perfect consistency each time. These are lab tested for purity. They are not individually wrapped but the bag opens and closes easily and when it zips shit, it stays shut. Each piece is 10mg – because of the shape it’s easily cut into 2 or 4 pieces for micro-dosing.
The package tells you everything you need to know. Dosing instructions included. I like to take one of these when I have a project I am working on, it totally helps me focus and get into the zone.
The flavor is on point and these are not too sweet. Check out their website: glowingbuddha.com
I know it’s not that close to Halloween but whatever, I was having fun with a photo editor.

Thank you for stopping by and reading my review. This is just my personal opinion.
