Essential Strategies for Affordable Grocery Shopping

My bank sent me a little something that showed how much I was spending on different things like groceries, entertainment, and gas among other things. I was really surprised to see how much I was spending on groceries. I know prices have went up, I work at a well known market and am always saying, “that used to be…” as in the dollar price.

I used to have a list and would go to different stores and I need to start doing that again. I think we stopped because it was so time consuming. We both work 40 hours a week like most people and would like to be doing something other than grocery shopping when we are not at work.

Preparation is key, if we leave early in the morning with a list – we can be home before noon.

Here are some other tips that have been helpful to me:

  1. Making a list of what we need.
  2. Checking prices at the stores I shop most at by looking at their weekly/monthly flyer online.
  3. Using the Ibotta app for any additional discounts.
  4. Loading coupons onto my phone from stores that have digital coupons.
  5. Go grocery shopping after we eat.
  6. Upload my receipt to Receipt Hog for points.

I am grateful for that info from the bank because now I can make some positive changes before I go to the store.

What’s your grocery store plan? Have you noticed the prices of just simple stuff going up? Do you use receipt apps? It is the beginning of the month so a great time to start a new plan and see what the results are.

My reviews: Sherb Hash Ball – Sand Castle Hash Co.

The packaging is nice and a little excessive but every ball comes in a little plastic container in this box.
I am all about the terpenes so even though they don’t break them down, I appreciate that the percentage is on the box.
I reuse these little containers for all kinds of things.
I mostly use hash balls during times where I need an extra kick from the cannabis I am smoking. They are usually very effective. This is usually my go-to brand because of the price. They run about $20 here locally.

The Joy of Walking: From Childhood Memories to Health Benefits

Why I like walking: I think my love of walking came from my childhood and younger years. My mom is Dutch and I spent a lot of time with my family in Holland when I was young. We would always go for walks, for fun, for adventure, after big meals it was just a regular thing.

Where do I walk now: Now that I am older I love taking walks and hikes everywhere. I currently live in Portland, OR and love walking around my neighborhood and to downtown. It’s a great city to walk in and with nature everywhere there are plenty of hikes to keep me busy. I love using the app, All Trails, it’s a great resource to find hikes and walks all over.

My thoughts on running: Running I just don’t get it. It’s just not my thing. I watch some people running by and they don’t look like they are having fun. Some do, but a lot don’t, they look like they are legit struggling. The last time I remember running I was a teenager and lived at the beach. My friends and I, we would use Liquid Paper (the liquid in a jar with a little brush to correct mistakes) put it on a sock and sniff it, then we would attempt to jog in the sand. We would always fall and sand was everywhere. I don’t recommend doing this to anyone, we were young very mischievous.

Conclusion: I love walking and it’s a bonus that’s it’s amazing exercise. While I am checking out all the beauty around me it helps me relax and reduces stress. While I am walking I am exercising my heart and boosting my energy. Walking helps move my joints and use my muscles. I am lucky because I really appreciate where I live and it’s so easy to get around by foot. I guess I could even say walking is like a hobby to me, I love it. What’s it like where you live? How is the walkability?
